Guide to Addon Usage
Guide to Mods Installing Mods / Addons
Mod is the same as add-on. Most people use the terms interchangeably.
1. Download the Addon, and unzip into the AddOns Folder. This is the folder where you will place your addons/mods that you want to install (by default, c:\Program Files\World Of Warcraft\Interface\Addons). If the AddOns Folder does not exist, you can create it by right-clicking, and 'add new folder'; then name it "AddOns". The Addon will create its own subfolder, and put all its files into that subfolder.
2. After you log into WoW, at the character selection screen, there will be a button in the lower left corner labeled "Add Ons". Clicking this button will load a screen for all add-ons for WoW.
A little about this add-ons screen. You will notice a pull down menu at the top. This will allow you to enable/disable add-ons for either 'all' characters, or per-character. if you hit the down arrow, you will see this. Also, next to this is a check box to load out-of-date add-ons. Keep this checked. What it does is allow the WoW UI to use older 'non-updated' add-ons after Blizzard pushes out an updated version of the code, and the .toc files list the old version.
We will assume that you want to enable/disable them for all characters. Any new add-ons will be automatically enabled. It is as easy as if the box is checked, then it will load, if it is not, then it wont. Also, another note about this 'check'. If you ever see it grayed out, that just means that you have an add-on enabled for one character and not another. Not necessarily a bad thing. For example, I have class specific mods. So I only load my mage mods for my mage, rogue mods for my rogue, etc. This make it so you don't waste system memory on add-ons that you don't need for that specific character.
Note: Some addons will conflict with other addons, and sometimes the conflict will make your WoW slow or unstable. If you need to "rescue", you can just delete the whole addons folder. Note that doing so MAY lose your saved data/configs.
